President extends Ramadan greetings

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has extended greetings to the people of Maldives on the commencement of the Holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement released today, the President called on the Maldivian people to observe Ramadan with earnest piety and through the performance of righteous deeds. He also encouraged the people to devote themselves to the virtuous duties enjoined by Islam, such as the recitation of the Holy Quran.

Continuing in this regard, President Yameen noted that from the earliest of times, Maldivians had remained steadfast in preserving the long-standing sanctity of the Islamic faith. He therefore appealed to the Maldivian people to mirror fine social etiquette and civil obedience in their daily conduct, during the holy month.

The President further underlined governmental efforts underway to ease Ramadan preparations made by the Maldivian people. These include the renovation of mosques around the country, and steps to ensure the availability and affordability of food items during Ramadan.

Concluding his message, President Yameen reciprocated Ramadan greetings to the leaders of Islamic nations and international Islamic organizations.
