Police asked to be on alert for tidal waves

Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed has ordered police officers in all islands to be on alert, as tidal waves are being experienced in islands across the country.

Flooding due to tidal waves is common at this time of the year, during the onset of the rainy season.

Police said on their website that Commissioner Waheed had ordered Division Commanders to provide all assistance possible to people in the islands who face difficulties due to flooding, and for this purpose, the situation in the atolls is under constant supervision by the police.

Division Commanders have also been asked to make preparations to mobilise teams to islands that do not have police stations as soon as possible, in the event of emergencies.

Meanwhile efforts are already ongoing by the police to place sandbags to prevent floods, and to transport people from affected areas to safe areas.
