Kudahuvadhoo reclamation completed

Netherlands based company Boskalis International has completed reclamation work in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo.

Kudahuvadhoo Council President Mohamed Zameer Ismail told Sun Online today that reclamation of 45 hectares from the southwest of the island was concluded around noon on Wednesday. Work to settle the reclaimed area and flatten the surface is now ongoing, the Councilor said.

The project to expand Kudahuvadhoo to a total of 65 hectares started on 28 May this year. The island has a population of approximately 3,000 people and is regarded as the central hub in Dhaalu Atoll.

Zameer said today that the council will work with the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure to assembled a Land-use Plan to develop the newly reclaimed area. Further reclamation to create space for an airport will also begin between 10 and 15 July, the Councilor said.
