New High Commissioner presents credentials to King of Malaysia

The new High Commissioner of Maldives to Malaysia Mohamed Fayaz has presented his Letter of Credence to the King of Malaysia His Majesty Al Mu’tasimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah today.

During the ceremony held at the National Palace, Istana Negara, the High Commissioner conveyed the goodwill and greetings of President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and the people of Maldives to the King, the government, and the people of Malaysia.

He noted that over the last few years Malaysia has become a home-away-from-home for a large number of Maldivians, and said that the government was working towards easing the existing bilateral visa regime, and expressed his confidence in receiving the kind support of the King in relation to these efforts.

Foreign Ministry said that in his remarks, the King highlighted that Malaysia and the Maldives have been enjoying warm and close bilateral relations since its establishment in 1968 and that indeed “the two countries have undertaken concerted efforts towards expanding the scope and dimension of bilateral relations”.

The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia His Excellency Dato’ Sri Anifah Haj Aman.
