Lots drawn among Edhuruhiya applicants

Lots have been drawn among the applicants who received highest points for Edhuruhiya, the flats designated for teachers funded by the Education Fund of the Ministry of Education.

Earlier, 15 people were selected for 15 one-bedroom flats, and another 56 people were selected for 60 two-bedroom flats.

During last night’s event at the hall of Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), lots were drawn among the 12 people who received highest points for the remaining four two-bedroom flats. Ten people were also selected for waiting lists for every category.

Education Ministry said that a preliminary list will be published on the Government Gazette next week and opened for complaints for 10 days, after which the final list will be compiled.

A total number of 405 people applied for Edhuruhiya flats. Seven applicants were disqualified, and the remaining 398 people were given points by a seven-member committee consisting of officials from various relevant government institutions.

Education Ministry said that the flats will be officially handed over in approximately three weeks.

The Edhuruhiya project, worth MVR 62 million, was funded by Education Ministry’s Education Fund (MVR 36 million) and a loan from the Islamic Bank (MVR 26 million). It consists of 18 one-bedroom apartments and 62 two-bedroom apartments.
