High Court supports decision to transfer Safa and group to house arrest

High court has supported Criminal Court’s decision to transfer Shafaz Abdul Razzag (Safa) of M. Lonumidhilige, and his group to house arrest. They are charged with drug offences.

High Court issued this decision after investigating the case appealed by Prosecutor General’s Office.

Safa’s group consists of Ismail Shameem of Karankaa vila, Th. Thimarafushi; Mohamed Miad of H. Gasvaa, Anas Anees of Everest, Gh. Fiyori; Hussain Atheek of M. Fehiasseyri; Hussain Atheef of M. Kudhehige; and Abdul Sattar Ali of Gulaabeege, Hdh. Kulhudhuffushi.

Criminal Court made the decision to transfer Safa and his group to house arrest after investigating the case filed by lawyers, requesting to consider that they had been detained by the Police for a long period.

Police found 895.9322g drugs and several tools used for packing drugs from the apartments of Safa and his friends. Drugs were found thrown on the roof of the neighboring house as well.

Police said that Safa had been bringing in drugs to Maldives since 2005. He collaborates with a dealer in Sri Lanka.

Criminal Court has commenced the trial for Safa and his group.
