Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has informed the Advisory Committee of Maldives Broadcasting Commission of the difficulties faced as a public broadcaster, in broadcasting listed events.
In a letter in this regard sent to the committee yesterday, MBC said that these legal obstacles are especially evident in the efforts to broadcast the World Cup matches.
The main issue highlighted by MBC was that while the regulation states that the party which obtains the rights to broadcast listed events should share those events with the public broadcaster, there are no procedures to ensure that this can be implemented.
Other issues highlighted by MBC include different interpretations of the Broadcasting Regulation and Rebroadcasting Regulation by different groups, and difficulties in preparation in terms of content and technical issues.
MBC said that it is therefore unable to provide timely assurance to the public, that it can broadcast listed events of public interest.
In light of the highlighted issues, MBC requested the committee for its advice and solutions to the problems faced by the public broadcaster in broadcasting listed events.
