Maldivian to commence seaplane service next month, first to Thaa Atoll

National airline Maldivian has announced that it will begin scheduled seaplane flights next month, and the first flights will be operated to Thaa Atoll.

Managing Director of Island Aviation Abdul Harish told Sun Online today that efforts are ongoing to commence these flights in the first week of July.

Harish said that initially two daily flights will be operated to Thaa Atoll, and services to other regions will commence in the near future. He added that ticket prices for Thaa Atoll flights have not yet been determined.

Harish further said that one seaplane is ready for operation while a second one is under preparation, and they will both be ready for test flights by the end of the month.

The national airline decided to enter the seaplane market in October 2013, following which it has acquired several seaplanes of the series DHC-6 Twin Otter.
