The hearing for the case against Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer scheduled for today has also been cancelled, as he is out of the country.
Umar’s lawyer Adam Asif was present in the courtroom for the hearing scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
Sources have told Sun Online that Asif has requested the court to re-schedule the hearing to a date after 16 June, when Umar is expected to return.
Media Coordinator at Ministry of Home Affairs Thamzeel Abdul Samad said at a press conference earlier this week, that Umar is presently in The Netherlands to finalise efforts to form a police dog squad in the Maldives.
After Umar missed the hearing on Tuesday, High court Judge Abdulla Didi warned that action would be taken against Umar as per regulations if he failed to appear in court on Thursday (today).
The summon note for today’s hearing, however, could not be delivered to Umar.
The State filed charges against Umar after he was suspected of using 50 ladders during a protest, and encouraging protesters to beak in to the headquarters of the defence force.
Umar has requested the court to declare void and annul the clause referred to by the State in the charges against him, which he claimed contradicted the Constitution.
