Chief Inspector of Police Hussain Risheef Thoha, who was dismissed from Maldives Police Service after being accused of raping a girl inside a police car, has been reinstated after the Supreme Court ruled in his favour in a case appealed by the State.
The police spokesperson has confirmed to Sun Online that Risheef had been reinstated to his previous post at the same rank, and that he returned to work yesterday.
Risheef was dismissed after being accused of forcing a girl into a police car near Maaveyo Mosque and raping her on the night of 6 August 2010.
The Civil Court first ruled that there were no grounds to order Maldives Police Service to reinstate Risheef. This ruling was appealed in High Court by Risheef.
The High Court annulled the Civil Court ruling and ordered Maldives Police Service to reinstate Risheef to a position similar in rank to the one he held prior to his dismissal, which was appealed in Supreme Court by the State.
On 2 June, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court ruling to reinstate Risheef.
Risheef was also arrested in March 2014 on suspicion of drinking beer at Dharavandhoo Airport in Baa Atoll.
