Foreign Minister departs to India

Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla has departed to India today.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that during the trip, the Minister will meet senior officials of Indian Government and diplomatic community based in New Delhi.

The Hindu referred to the spokesperson of Indian Ministry of External Affairs Mr Syed Akbaruddin and said that Maldives Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla is scheduled to meet with Indian External Affairs Minister Mr S.M. Krishna tomorrow.

The paper also said that through this meeting, “India will get a fresh update on the situation in Maldives which has witnessed political turmoil for the past couple of months.”

On his first trip abroad since he assumed the post of Foreign Minister, Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla is accompanied by Foreign Secretary Mr. Mohamed Naseer.

India was the first country to recognize the new government of Maldives following the change of government on 7 February 2012.
