The Supreme Court has upheld the High Court ruling to reinstate former Chief Inspector of Police Hussain Risheef, who was dismissed from Maldives Police Service after being accused of raping a girl inside a police car.
This comes after the Civil Court ruling on this case, which stated that there are no grounds to order Maldives Police Service to reinstate Risheef, was appealed in High Court by Risheef.
The High Court annulled the Civil Court ruling and ordered Maldives Police Service to reinstate Risheef to a position which is similar in rank to the one he held prior to his dismissal.
This High Court ruling was appealed in Supreme Court by the State, which ruled today that there are no legal grounds to change the High Court ruling.
Risheef was dismissed after being accused of forcing a girl into a police car near Maaveyo Mosque and raping her on the night of 6 August 2010.
He was also arrested in March 2014 on suspicion of drinking beer at Dharavandhoo Airport in Baa Atoll.
