Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed was elected Chair, and Makunudhoo MP Anara Naeem was elected Deputy Chair of the five-member select committee to determine composition of standing committees, assembled today.
The chair and deputy chair were elected unanimously at the first meeting of the select committee held at 11:30 a.m. today.
After passing the committee rules and regulations, the chair ruled to inform political parties to notify the committee on any changes in party allegiances before 4:00 p.m. today.
The five-member select committee to determine composition of standing committees comprises of Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim, Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ali Mauroof, Henveyru-Central MP Ali Azim, in addition Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed and Makunudhoo MP Anaara Naeem.
Parliament has a total of 13 standing committees, each with 11 MPs. Article 111 (a) of the Parliament Standing Orders requires parliament to finalize the composition of standing committees within two weeks of the beginning of a new parliament.
