Ibu elected Leader, Rozaina Deputy Leader of MDP parliamentary group

Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) and Addu-Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam have been elected Leader and Deputy Leader respectively, of the parliamentary group of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Ibu and Rozaina, the only candidates who contested for these posts, were elected unanimously by the twenty members present at the election held at MDP Office this afternoon.

Talking to reporters after the election, Ibu said that as an opposition party, MDP’s priority would be holding the government accountable for its actions, and monitoring whether it fulfils its election pledges.

Also at today’s meeting, Mohamed Rasheed Hussain (Bigey) was elected MDP Parliamentary Group Secretary General. He received 18 votes.

MDP parliamentary group is made up of 25 members. Five were absent at today’s election.

No candidates stood for election for the posts of whips or Parliamentary Group Deputy Secretary General.
