The Maldives Police Services has fully resumed its operations in Addu City, with the Addu State House as their new Headquarters.
Police operations at Addu City were disrupted, when supporters of former President Nasheed ran unbridled throughout the City, setting fire to police stations, police vehicles and court houses, and attacking and looting police officers.
Addu State House was converted into the new Headquarters for the Police at Addu City as supporters of Nasheed, headed by the City Council, expressed disapproval. The City Council, with an all-MDP membership, had said that “the people of Addu do not want the State House to be used for any purpose other than as a residence for the Head of State in his visits to the City.
A group of people staged a protest against the Police using the State House as well.
Police operations in Addu City resumed with the 79th Anniversary of the Police, and in the special ceremony held at the State House to mark the occasion, all police officers and commanders at Addu City participated.
