Maldives tourist arrivals increase by 6.1 percent for March

Tourist arrivals in the Maldives has increased by 6.1 percent in March 2014, compared to March 2013.

Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism shows a total of 105,560 tourists visited Maldives in March 2014, compared to 99,498 tourists in March the previous year.

With an arrival of 23,705 tourists, most number of tourists from a single country travelled from China, a 33 percent increase compared to March 2013.

Europe held the most the number tourist arrivals from a region in March 2014, with 56,995 tourists in total. However, this a decrease of 6.9 percent compared to March 2013, which saw 61,204 tourists from Europe. A total of 41,349 tourists arrived from Asia and the Pacific in March 2014, an increase of 28.6 percent compared to March the previous year, a major contribution to the increase in the overall number of arrivals in March this year.

Maldives received 321,561 tourists between January and March 2014, an increase of 9.7 percent compared to the same period in 2013.
