National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) has said that since December 2013, water has been supplied to 59 islands that faced water shortage.
NDMC said in a statement issued today that requests for water had been made by 76 islands that faced shortages due to the north-east monsoon (iruvai season).
The statement says that water has been supplied to 59 out of these 76 islands, including twice to some islands.
NDMC has divided the islands into groups for the water supply work. Islands included in the most recent group to receive water were Haa Alifu Utheem, Baa Kihaadhoo, Raa Fainu, Baa Dharavandhoo, Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo, Thaa Dhiyamigili, Alifu Alifu Maarandhoo, Kaafu Gaafaru, and Alifu Alifu Himandhoo.
The statement says that water will be provided in the coming days to Baa Kendhoo, Baa Kudarikili, Baa Fulhadhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Kunburudhoo, Raa Rasgetheem, Raa Ungoofaaru, Raa Maakurathu, and Meemu Naalaafushi.
