Member of Parliament for Maafannu Hulhan’gu Abdulla Abdul Raheem has joined Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) today.
The signing ceremony was held this afternoon at DRP office.
Abdul Raheem said that he decided to rejoin DRP due to the creation of factions within Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and also because he no longer agrees with MDP’s practices.
He said that crimes were conducted at MDP’s ‘Journey to Justice’ camp.
He defended calling President Dr Mohamed Waheed a ‘traitor’, and said that he did so under political pressure. He added that MDP’s refusal to take the case regarding the legitimacy of the current government to Supreme Court, proves the legitimacy of the current government.
Leader of DRP Ahmed Thasmeen Ali congratulated and thanked Abdul Raheem, and said that Abdul Raheem has “the capacity and energy to positively contribute to DRP and the nation”.
Abdulla Abdul Raheem left DRP and joined MDP on 23 May 2011. Back then he said that he joined MDP ‘with his heart and soul’, and that no person can make him change his decision.
