Parliament office has revealed details of damage caused to fixtures in the parliament chamber during the opening session on 19 March.
Parliament Secretary General Ahmed Mohamed said in an interview with Sun Online today that on 19 March, damage was caused to touch screens, fifteen name boards, mic system, equipment used on administrative desks, and cards used for voting by parliament members.
“In addition, chairs are damaged, desks are scratched; and as the desks fell over, the cables connecting the mic system and voting system came off because they are connected through the desks,” Ahmed Mohamed said.
He said that the financial value of damage is hard to estimate, and that work is underway to replace some equipment and test the cables and solve the problems associated with them.
“We are checking every microphone to see if there are any problems with the sound system. We will receive the report tomorrow,” Ahmed Mohamed said.
He was confident that the problems will be fixed before the next parliament meeting.
A technical staff working on these issues said that several microphones installed on the desks have been removed and broken in half; the cost of this damage alone would be around Rf25000.
Several equipment were damaged on 1 March as well, when MDP members even removed and threw the Maldivian flag.
