Japan is an important development partner to Maldives: President

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that Japan is an important development partner of the Maldives.

The President made this remark while addressing Maldivian families and students in Tokyo, Japan this evening.

He said that a country with a politically activated people would not be able to sustain harmony, and that one of the highest priorities of the government was to transform the political instability among Maldivians into a development outlook.

At the meeting held at the Hotel Okura this evening, the President highlighted the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and Japan.

Underlining the number of similarities between the two countries, the President noted that Japan was an important development partner of the Maldives. He said that despite the small Maldivian population in Japan, the Maldivian Embassy in Japan was important for strengthening consular services.

In his speech, the President also underscored the goals he hoped to achieve out of his current visit to Japan.
