Chinese media in Maldives

The government has met with several media operators of China to give information regarding travel safety as a result of the current political situation in Maldives.

Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb and officials of the tourism industry yesterday met with the Chinese media delegation currently visiting Maldives in collaboration with Maldives Marketing and Public Relation Corporation (MMPRC) and Singapore Airlines.

Officials of the tourism industry informed the Chinese media that the political situation will not affect tourism in the Maldives. They were also given information on tourism development plans and challenges faced by Maldives due to climate change.

Tourism Ministry said that the purpose of the meeting was to inform Chinese tourists that Maldives is a safe destination.

The delegation consists of twelve members of media groups representing eight cities in China. They will spend three days in Maldives.

The number of tourist from China is the most to decline due to the political unrest in the Maldives. Negative campaigns are currently being conducted on Maldives tourism.
