Maldives Police Service has today launched a countrywide search operation for dangerous animals being held as household pets in the Maldives.
Police said today that the special operation was prompted by recent sightings of non-native animals in the capital. The aim of the operation to preemptively seek and confiscate dangerous and poisonous animals held in captivity, before a tragedy occurs, police said.
The operation is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Maldives Customs Service and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
Sighting of animals alien to the Maldives such as snakes and black widow spiders have increased in the capital. A majority of such animals were discovered during drug busts in Male’ area.
