Cases filed to High Court requesting annulment of Vilingili, Mahibadhoo elections

Cases have been filed to High Court requesting annulment of Parliamentary Elections for Vilingili and Mahibadhoo.

The case regarding Vilingili election was filed by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), while the case regarding Mahibadhoo election was filed by Jumhooree Party (JP).

The case regarding Vilingili election claims that staff of Kooddoo Fisheries were threatened by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidate, who won the election, to vote for him.

Also, about 300 votes were tagged and later traced to see if the staff voted for the PPM candidate, states the case.

PPM candidate Saud Hussain won the Vilingili election against MDP candidate Haroon Rasheed by 229 votes.

The case requests High Court to declare the tagged votes invalid.

JP claimed in its case regarding Mahibadhoo election that procedures were violated when ballot boxes were closed.
