Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has changed its yearly parliamentary group election to 3 April to avoid it overlapping with several council by-elections. The parliamentary group election was previously scheduled for this Wednesday.
MDP Spokesperson Mohamed Imthiyaz (Inthi) said that this decision was made also due to certain difficulties faced by the secretariat responsible for organizing the election, and following discussion with the election committee.
The only candidate contesting for president of MDP parliamentary group is its current president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu). Candidates for vice president include Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed, Hithadhoo Uthuru MP Mohamed Aslam, Maafannu Hulhan’gu MP Abdulla Abdul Raheem and Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed.
