Large part of capital suffers power disruption

A technical issue with the State Electric Company’s (STELCO) main generator left a large portion of Male’ without power today.

Engineer at STELCO Ibrahim Raoof said the issue, which occurred around 1:45 p.m., has been resolved and that the electricity supply has resumed.

“It is difficult to say the exact areas that lost electricity. The failure occurred due to a technical fault with the engine,” Raoof said.

The disruption left about one forth of the capital without electricity for over an hour.
