Committee recommends Dr Azeema as MMA Governor

Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to recommend Dr Azeema Adam as the new Governor of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Independent institutions committee chair Dhidhdhoo MP Ahmed Sameer told Sun that the committee approved Dr Azeema during a meeting on Monday and that she gave clear answers in her interview.

MP Sameer also said that the committee report recommending Azeema for the Governor post will be forwarded to the Speaker today. Parliament will vote on the recommendation at a later date.

Dr Azeema joined MMA in May 1991, and is presently the Assistant Governor and Chief Economist, Monetary Policy, Research and Statistics at MMA. She holds a PhD in Economics and a Master’s Degree in International Development and Finance.
