Local motorcycle dealer Sheesha has filed a case to Civil Court requesting implementation of the sentence against State Bank of India (SBI), after the bank failed to pay the company MVR 13.5 million as ordered by the court earlier.
Speaking at a press conference today, Hussain Husham, one of the three Sheesha brothers involved in this lawsuit, said that the case filed last week has been accepted by Civil Court.
SBI has been accused of transferring MVR 18 million from the account of the three Sheesha brothers on 9 and 20 November 2011, to a group of people who submitted forged documents.
Civil Court ordered SBI on 16 January 2014 to pay MVR 13.5 million, the remaining sum owed by SBI, to the three brothers within one month.
Sheesha recovered MVR 4.4 million after it had been deposited by the perpetrators to an account in Bank of Maldives (BML).
Lawyer representing Sheesha told reporters that they approached SBI prior to filing the lawsuit, requesting the bank to transfer the money to Sheesha. He said that the bank’s response was that it would pay the money if ordered by the court, and asked Sheesha to proceed to file the case to court.
