Government signs agreement for development of zakat software

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has signed an agreement with National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) for a project worth MVR 800,000 regarding the development of a software for managing zakat.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Aishath Muneeza, and Head of NCIT, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication Mohamed Ashmalee.

Speaking to media after signing the agreement, Ashmalee said that the project will be implemented next month and completed in about four months.

He said that the software will enable the payment of zakat from any location in the Maldives.

An official of Islamic Ministry said that the software will include information on people paying fitr zakat and zakat on wealth, as well as other information related to zakat such as the poverty level in the country.

He said that the software will facilitate the establishment of a complete system for the payment and distribution of zakat in the Maldives.
