MDP ridicules Islam, says Siyam

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has a culture of ridiculing Islam, Meedhoo MP and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has said.

The MDA leader made the comments at a rally for Meedhoo constituents in Male’ on Friday night.

“We have to consider their (MDP's) culture. They ridicule Islam, make the Prophet the subject of their jokes... God will not bless a people who supports them,” Siyam said.

Describing the MDP government as a time when the people were at the brink of losing their freedom and religion, Siyam said that the Maldivian economy had also seen an unprecedented decline during the three years.

“Not a tourist wanted to come to Maldives. There was no one to invest in the islands. The state of the Maldivian people were declining from day to day. People were at the brink of their most desired freedom and religion,” Siyam said.

Siyam - who is seeking re-election to parliament through the 22 March vote - thanked his constituents for their support and promised to work for the progress of the constituency during the coming five-year term.
