Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has requested the Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid to continue parliament sittings without a hiatus, as decided earlier.
Speaking to Sun, PPM's Parliamentary Group Leader MP Moosa Zameer pressed that the parliament has a lot of urgent work, including the approval of a Prosecutor General and members to the Elections Commission.
PPM wants the two Elections Commission vacancies to be filled as soon as possible, Zameer said, and noted that the committees also have a lot of pending work. As parliament does not hold sittings every consecutive day, MPs seeking re-election can still continue their campaigns, Zameer said.
Concluding the last sitting on 12 March, which saw the approval of a member to the Elections Commission - Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid had announced that following discussions with the parties, the Chair has decided to hold the next sitting after 22 March, the date of the parliamentary election.
