The local who suffered severe burns during an oil tanker fire on 4 March, has passed away.
Adam Azim, Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO) – proprietor of the oil tanker – told Sun that the victim, 61-year-old Adam Gasim from Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi passed away around 3:00 p.m. local time on Friday.
Gasim suffered severe burns following an accident that triggered an explosion while he was welding above deck. The accident occurred while the ship was travelling near India, en route to the Gulf, after offloading at shipment in Maldives.
STO’s Managing Director said Gasim was admitted at one of the best burn-care centers around the region and that two family members were with him in India when he passed away yesterday afternoon.
The company has been providing all necessary assistance to Gasim and his family, Azim said, including all medical expenses.
