President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has no mind to shift his official residence from Hilaalyge to Mulee’aage, said Abbas Adil Riza, Spokesperson at the President’s Office.
Abbas said today that the President would continue to reside at Hilaalyge, his official residence as Deputy President too.
“The President does not wish to shift his official residence. He resided at Hilaalyge when he was the Deputy President, and he wishes to continue to live there even as President”, said Abbas.
Rumours claiming that the President has decided to shift to Mulee’aage spread, after the ceremony of President’s meeting with public members was conducted last Thursday at Mulee’aage. However, Abbas said that the ceremony was held at Mulee’aage due to lack of sufficient space for such an event at Hilaalyge as well as the President’s Office.
“Even for that event, Mulee’age compound, and not the building, was used”, said Abbas.
Abbas said that President Waheed did not wish to live in a huge palace while his people lived in small houses, and said that the President would, despite the incontinences, would reside at Hilaalyge.
Former President Nasheed resided at Mulee’aage.
