Ministry of Islamic Affairs has decided to conduct a second Council of Religious Scholars during the upcoming July.
Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Sa’eed, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, said that the Council would be held in July, and that this Council would basically address common misconceptions about Islam among the people. Even though the Council is set for July, no specific dates have yet been given.
Minister Shaheem said that the Second Council would be open for the general public and the media, unlike the First Council held last year.
Shaheem also said that scholars from abroad would be invited to the Council. He also said that the Islamic Ministry was already consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about bringing a noted Muslim scholar from abroad to inaugurate the Council.
Shaheem further said that the decisions of the First Council would be generally published during the Second Council.
The First Council of Religious scholars in the Maldives was participated by some 60 figures, and many controversial issues related to religion were discussed in the Council.
