Minor accused of murdering Nizar charged with terrorism

State has raised terrorism charges against the minor accused of the murder of Ahmed Nizar from Laamu Gan, Thundi during July last year.

A senior official from Juvenile Court confirmed that the court has received the case, but said a hearing is yet to be scheduled.

The indictment states that, around 2:23 a.m. on the 14 of July 2013, the minor, along with a few others, attacked Ahmed Nizar with wooden planks and iron rods near the Dhiraagu antenna in Laamu Gan. Nizar was promptly taken to Gan Regional Hospital, although he was already dead when he reached the hospital. He was driving a motorcycle north on Sinaee Magu at the time of the attack.

Five people, including the minor, were arrested for the murder. A 21-year-old was arrested on 15 July, a 22-year-old on 17 July, and 26 and 22-year-olds on 19 July.

The minor is being charged under Article 2 (a) and (b) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Article 2 (a) states that the act of killing or causing bodily harm or intent to carry out such actions with the intention of inciting fear, or terror, or with a political motive, shall be construed as acts of terrorism.

Article 2 (b) states that the act or the intention of kidnapping or abduction of persons, or of taking hostages, shall be construed as acts of terrorism.
