Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that camps similar to those at Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu area will also be built on Usfasgandu area. Also, if MDP wins the court case on Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu area, camps will be rebuilt there.
MDP Spokesperson and Maafannu Uthuru MP Imthiyaz Fahmy (Inthi) said that the Usfasgandu area behind Dharubaaruge will be used in the same manner as Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu area, to conduct political activities by putting up tents. He did not say when the tents will be put up.
Male’ City Council has leased Usfasgandu area to MDP for three months. The government has opposed this decision and said that no political activity shall be conducted at Usfasgandu area.
Inthi said that if the court is to issue a just ruling on the Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu case, MDP would win it.
MDP also criticised President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s statement today that the public does not want an early election. Inthi said that what the public want is an early election and that President Waheed’s statement is in conflict with what the whole country is saying.
“Apparently President Waheed said that Maldivians do not want an election. This is the opposite of what the citizens are saying,” Inthi said
Criticizing President Dr Waheed meeting the public in Muliaage today, Inthi said that only few supporters of President Waheed went to meet him today. They only went because President Waheed sent them letters asking them to visit him.
“Few people went because they were sent letters. I don’t think even one hundred people went,” Inthi said.
President’s Office said that over 700 people visited the President from 10:00 to 11:30 today.
