President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the island of Thulusdhoo would see development as wished for by its citizens, by the end of the five years of the present government.
He made this remark while speaking at an event to launch the campaign for lawyer Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, who will run for Thulusdhoo seat on Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) ticket at the Parliamentary Election.
“By the end of five years of our government, you would have achieved the levels of development you wish for,” he said.
He said that an agreement had been signed with Boskalis International regarding land reclamation in Thulusdhoo, and an agreement had been signed with another party regarding the establishment of a sewerage system in the island, and both these projects will be implemented soon.
He highlighted that electricity is a problem in Dhiffushi, an island in the constituency of Thulusdhoo, and assured efforts to solve this problem will begin this year.
He said that a project will be launched this year to establish a sewerage system in Himmafushi as well.
For Huraa, he said that a land reclamation project will be launched this year, and a football ground, as requested by the people, will also be established soon.
President Yameen said that the support of the parliament is crucial in achieving these developmental projects at the speed desired by citizens.
The event was attended by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and former President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
