A water pipe owned by Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has burst, causing flooding on Boduthakurufaanu Magu on the south side of Male’.
The incident took place at around 9:45 a.m. near Waste Area 1 on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The water, even though it was controlled within 20 minutes, caused flooding between Ekuveni Stadium and Villa International High School.
The burst water pipe was used to carry salt water to the sea, thus left salt water on the streets.
Marketing Executive at MWSC Maryam Narmeen said that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of this accident.
Director General of Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Ibrahim Naeem said that the salt water was likely to have damaged the trees in the area, and that MWSC would be notified to use fresh water to water the trees.
He further said that EPA will investigate the matter and take action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
