Overtime payable only after seven hours of daily work: CSC

Civil Service Commission (CSC) has said that overtime will only be payable to their employees provided that they have worked 7 hours per day and 35 hours per week.

A circular released by CSC states that the official working hours for employees who perform shift work will be the hours of the shift assigned to them, and they will have to work seven hours per day excluding overtime.

The circular says, “Following the change in official government working hours, we call on all employees to be more efficient and complete their work during work hours, and refrain from working overtime unless absolutely necessary.”

Eemployees will get a lunch break of thirty minutes and a fifteen minute break for afternoon prayers; a total break of 45 minutes.

“...the 45 minute break should be given between 12:00 and 13.30. Any break obtained outside of these hours should be obtained with the permission of a senior member of the office, and with the deduction of the usual 45 minute break.”

The circular also says that breaks should be planned such that the functioning of the offices is not interrupted. Records should be kept of when employees leave the office and return during break hours, and those who take breaks of longer than 45 minutes shall have their salaries cut according to hourly rate.
