MP Alhan submits form to contest election as independent candidate

Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy has submitted the form to the Elections Commission to stand as an independent candidate for the upcoming Parliamentary Election.

Alhan’s sibling Shazban Fahmy said that the form was submitted on Alhan’s behalf today, by his family.

He said that Alhan decided to contest as independent candidate because the result of the Primary held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was invalid.

“Even MDP’s Election Committee has agreed that the voters’ list used at the Primary was invalid. Every vote cast using an invalid list is an invalid vote,” said Shazban.

Shazban further said that campaign activities for Alhan are ongoing in Male’ and Feydhoo.

He said that the attack on Alhan was driven by politics.

Alhan is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Sri Lanka after being stabbed on the night of 1 February.

Shazban said that Alhan was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to a room yesterday, and that he is now able to move his legs.
