Arabic will be introduced in schools across the country: Vice President

Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the government will do everything possible to introduce Arabic as a language in schools across the country.

Dr Jameel said this while speaking at a ceremony at Hiriya School today to officially inaugurate the introduction of Arabic in schools, one of the goals included in the first 100-day roadmap of the Ministry of Education.

“The government intends to make this available to all Maldivians. We will achieve this. This involves hard work, and this is an important step taken by the government. The government is prepared to provide the funds necessary to achieve this,” he said.

Dr Jameel said that the introduction of Arabic in schools other than Arabiyya School, will strengthen students’ faith in Islam and have a positive impact on their discipline.

“Knowing Arabic will improve students’ discipline, and increase their love for the Quran. They will understand the meaning of the prophet’s teachings,” he said.

Dr Jameel said that the government will prioritise revising the education system and work towards basing the education system on Islamic disciplinary principles, as wished for by the people.
