This tweet by Gayoom follows unrest within opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), including burning of ballot boxes and papers, during their efforts to hold Primaries on 24 January, ahead of the Parliamentary Election.
MDP said that members of government coalition parties tried to ‘hijack’ their Primaries by posing as MDP members and submitting registration forms.
PPM has held Primaries for 32 out of the 50 constituencies it will contest in the Parliamentary Election.
PPM has also forgone Primaries and granted tickets to 18 candidates.
MDP has granted tickets to 11 sitting MPs, and will contest all 85 seats in the Parliamentary Election.
