Police discuss parliamentary election with political parties

Chief Superintendent of Police Ismail Naveen has met with political party representatives on Wednesday to discuss police operations planned for the smooth conduct of the parliamentary election, scheduled for 22 March.

Speaking at the meeting, commander of the operation Ismail Naveen noted that the highest priority of the police would be to ensure that a conducive environment is maintained before, during and after the election day. He sought support from political parties to maintain the peace and received a positive response from all representatives present at the meeting.

He also asked the parties to refrain from posting campaign material on the polls that support CCTV cameras in the capital Male’.

Deputy commander of the operation, Chief Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan also participated in the meeting. Introducing the police focal point to the political party representatives, Mannan assured that policemen taking part in the election operation will be properly briefed and assessed before being station at the atolls.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Adhaalath Party (AP), Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Jumhoory Party (JP) and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
