Murder convict

Sources have confirmed that Mohamed Kinaanath Ahmed, arrested over the stabbing of MP Alhan Fahmy on Saturday night, is still in police custody.

Kinaanath is the brother of Hussain Humaam, the young man recently convicted for the brutal murder of religious scholar and Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrasheem Ali in October 2012.

In May last year, Kinaanath was arrested for stabbing a man near Star Cinema in Maafannu, Male’. The case is with the Prosecutor General, seeking prosecution.

Kinaanath was released from jail during Nasheed’s administration under the Second Chance program that granted parole to a number of convicts.
