MDP protests, calls to impede President Waheed tomorrow

MDP has held a protest in Male’ this afternoon, calling to prevent President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik from entering the Parliament building tomorrow.

Protesters called for an early election and reiterated that the current government is unlawful.

They also called for the resignations of Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim, Home Minister Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and Commissioner of Police Abdulla Riyaz.

In addition to former President Nasheed and several members of parliament, some singers also participated in today’s protest. The protest started at 4:00 at Lonuziyaaraiy kolhu, and ended at 6:00 in the same area.

Addressing the protesters, Nasheed said that the current government came into power through a coup and that the people want an elected government. He also said that the people want peace, prosperity and unity.
