Application for parliamentary election to open on Tuesday

Elections Commission has said decided to call for parliamentary election applications on Tuesday, 28 January. The election is scheduled for 22 March.

The number of constituencies will increase from 77 to 85 for the upcoming the 18th term of the parliament. Elections Commission said that preparation for the election is underway.

The ruling coalition has decided to field candidates on coalition tickets, and is in the process of allocating the number of tickets for each party. Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) began its parliamentary primary on Friday.
