A crane has toppled on top of a building under construction in Maafannu last night, also damaging the adjacent building and injuring a foreign worker.
The crane fell on top of a house named H. Dhethandima Lodge, located at the Lonuziyaaraiy Magu – Kashima Hingun intersection, at around 2:30 a.m. last night while construction was underway to lay the concrete for the house's second storey.
The crane also hit the adjacent house, the five storey building of H. Berinmadhooge. The concrete load held by the crane fall and landed on top a warehouse, damaging its roof.
A male foreign worker, who was working at the site, was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) over injuries to his leg, sources said. More details were unavailable.
An inhabitant of a house near the area told Sun that the operator's efforts to lift the crane back upright caused it to sink more into the buildings, causing even more damage.
