Government to award land for Sri Lankan embassy

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said the government has decided to award a plot of land to the High Commission of Sri Lanka in the Maldives to build its chancery in Male'.

Speaking to the press at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport after concluding his state visit Sri Lanka last night, President Yameen said the gesture emphasizes the close relationship between Maldives and Sri Lanka. The plot will be granted within the year, he said.

President Yameen said the Sri Lankan government has also decided to grant a land to construct a High Commission of Maldives in Colombo.

Indian government also awarded a land plot to construct the Maldivian High Commission in India, during President Yameen’s visit to India earlier this month.
