Lawyer Suood suspended

Supreme Court has suspended former Attorney General and lawyer Husnu Al Suood indefinitely, and notified the police to investigate allegations against him.

Suood told Sun Online that he was informed in writing by the Supreme Court of his suspension today.

Suood’s suspension comes in relation to a tweet regarding a case filed by Jumhooree Party (JP) to court to annul the result of the first round of the presidential election.

Suood later said that he was not the one who submitted this tweet, and that it was done by someone else using his account.

Suood noted that while he has been suspended, members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) legal team Hisaan Hussain and Hassan Latheef, who also criticised the court following the annulment of the presidential election result, have been allowed to return to court.

Suood was representing Elections Commission in court when he criticised Supreme Court on Twitter.

Supreme Court was not available at the time of press for a comment regarding the suspensions.
