Renovation of IGMH will begin soon: India

Renovation of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) will begin soon, announced Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Rajeev Shahare last night. The state-owned hospital was gifted to the Maldives by the Indian government in 1995.

Speaking last night at the inauguration of Maldives-India friendship week to mark the golden jubilee of relations between the two countries, High Commissioner Rajeev Shahare said the company commissioned for IGMH's renovation, National Building Construction Corporation Limited, has already arrived in Male’.

The project will start soon and the hospital will be modernized, the High Commissioner said.

Renovation of the 275-bed hospital was announced by the Indian government one year ago. The project is to be carried out without disruption to surgeries.

Speaking at last night’s event, Rajeev Shahare said President Abdulla Yameen’s recent state visit to India has opened a new chapter in Indo-Maldives relations.
