Government will safeguard strong relations with India: Vice President

Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the present government will safeguard the existing strong relations with India.

Dr Jameel said this while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Dosti-Ekuverikan Week at Traders Hotel tonight.

“This Government will safeguard the existing strong relations with India, and work to take relations to new heights. We will ensure this through regional and international collaboration, ensuring the development of both our countries.”

He said that 2015 is a special year for the Maldives, as on 26 July 2015 it will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of its Independence.

“Later in the year, we will similarly celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations with India.”

In November 2015, it will be 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and India.

The Dosti-Ekuverikan Week includes a film festival, yoga workshops, an Indian food festival, an art exhibition, and an Indian cultural night.

In addition to this, there will also be eye camps at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Hulhumale’ Hospital by four Indian eye doctors, who will conduct small eye operations gratis.
